Vineyard and Access Road Maintenance

AFTER A LONG WINTER PERIOD…

At Damjanić Vineyard, it is time for vineyard and access road maintenance and soil cultivation.

INTER-ROW CULTIVATION – The inter-row soil layer is processed with a cultivator to eliminate grass cover that develops during winter. The soil is loosened and broken down, capillarity is interrupted, and weeds are removed. Breaking down the surface soil layer prevents water loss that accumulates during winter. Soil processing and breaking down also promotes humus mineralization, thereby indirectly providing the plant with more accessible forms of nutrients. Soil cultivation encourages the development of microorganisms in the soil, increasing its biogenicity.

Additionally, access roads around the vineyard and field paths between plots are maintained to prevent further grass growth.

Cultivation is performed to prevent the use of total pesticides (poisons) and slow down grass growth.
