ISTRIA DECLARED WINE REGION OF THE YEAR

Munskänkarna, one of the largest non-profit wine associations in the world with more than 25,000 members and 170 sections throughout Sweden and the world, has selected Istria as its wine region for 2017!

This recognition, in addition to being a great achievement for Istrian winemakers, is a significant contribution to Istria’s wine tourism. Wine regions around the world are becoming desirable tourist destinations, and winemakers certainly add value to the tourism offering.

In previous years, Lower Austria, Montsant and Priorat in Spain, and Napa and Sonoma in the USA were declared wine regions. Due to its climatic characteristics, beautiful landscape, and exceptional wines produced by Istrian winemakers, Istria emerged as a logical choice for wine region of 2017.

2016. Istria was ranked among the top 10 best wine destinations in Europe, and this recognition is further confirmation that the Istrian wine scene is one of the most popular wine regions.

On the occasion of Istria being declared wine region of the year, representatives of the Munskänkarna association are visiting Istria to tour Istrian wineries and visit tourist destinations, and to begin collaboration with Istrian winemakers in 2017.
