Harvest in Full Swing

The grape harvest has been underway for about twenty days across ten and a half hectares of vineyards. So far, the parameters have been more than ideal and the quality of the grapes is excellent. We have harvested Chardonnay, Pinot Blanc, Yellow Muscat, and Malvasia. The Burgundy harvest is next, and we will wait a few more days for Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Teran, hoping the weather will cooperate. Every harvest is different and none can be compared to the previous year. Some harvests are gentle, starting slowly and ending slowly, giving the winemaker time to think and experiment. Some arrive unpredictably with great intensity and end the same way, leaving the winemaker with the impression of racing against nature and oneself. But most are spirited, somewhat improvisational, where the winemaker follows nature’s unpredictable rhythm like jazz.
