Preparing the Vineyard for the Coming Year
Now that the official harvest of this year’s grape crop has been completed, it is time to allow the grapes to undergo fermentation, or must fermentation. Once this process is complete, young wine gradually emerges and is then subjected to racking. The coming period represents a dormant phase for vegetation, but we must also carry out several important tasks that will certainly influence next year’s yield. The most important tasks we perform during dormancy are protecting the vine stock from low temperatures, deep soil cultivation, and fertilization, as during these months and seasonal transitions, nutrients from mineral fertilizers dissolve throughout the entire cultivated soil layer, bringing them closer to the roots. This is followed by vine pruning. All procedures we perform in the coming months will have a significant impact on next year’s yield, so it is very important to carefully monitor each step and prepare the vegetation and the vines themselves for a successful coming year.
